Mortar Hoses & Nozzles
Madewell® offers equipment for shooting mortar by hand, such as mortar hoses and a variety of wet mix shotcrete nozzle sizes and configurations:
- Medium velocity wet mix shotcrete nozzles are the most common nozzles used with Mainstay mortar mixing and pumping equipment. These nozzles increase production and provide the smoothest finish, but they require more air volume to operate properly.
- Low velocity mortar nozzles have a lower velocity compared to larger shotcrete nozzles, but they also require less air volume.
Mainstay® Mortar Spinner
An alternative method to applying mortar to round structures such as manholes is through the use of the Mainstay Mortar Spinner. This device provides uniform application thickness and reduces material consumption and waste.
Features & Benefits:
- Increases productivity versus conventional hand spray
- Reduces the amount of time personnel are in the structure
- Increases the velocity at which the restoration mortar is applied, which increases bond strength
- Provides enhanced application uniformity resulting in reduced material usage and finishing time
Mortar Spinner Specifications:
- 1.75 horsepower air motor requires 75 cubic feet per minute at 100 pounds per square inch
- Centrifugally apply cementitious mortars to 6 foot diameter structures
Mainstay Hose Puller
Manholes as deep as 50 feet pose a unique challenge from the standpoint of accessibility. Madewell Products offers the Mainstay Hose Puller to address this challenge by mechanically lifting and lowering the spinner by the mortar hose. The unit requires only a single operator.
Mainstay® Hydraulically Powered Mortar Mixer Pump
The Mainstay Hydraulically Powered Mortar Mixer Pump is a versatile and efficient machine that will mix, dump, and pump heavy bodied restoration mortars. It consists of a hydraulically powered 7 cubic foot horizontal shaft and a reversible 2L6 rotor/stator pump. Controls for the mixer, pump, and dump functions are located directly on the unit.
Features and Benefits:
Hydraulic power for the mixer and rotor/stator pump provides exceptional torque for mixing and pumping heavy bodied mortars and provides long life with low maintenance.
- Ergonomic design puts the top of the mixer at the operator's waist level. The operator can perform the job with less strain and effort.
- Hydraulic cylinders lift the entire mixer unit to dump the contents of the mixer into the pump hopper with essentially no effort on the part of the operator.
- Control valves are located directly on the unit for easy access and operation. The operator has full view of all machine functions while using the controls.
- Both the mixer and pump are reversible, and both the mixer and pump are equipped with variable speed controls.
- The entire unit is powder coated a medium grey for easy cleaning and maintenance.
Pump Specifications:
Maximum output: 1.5 cubic feet per minute (CFM), depending on material consistency
- Maximum pumping distance: 150 feet vertical; 250 feet horizontal, depending on material consistency
- Maximum pressure: 350 pounds per square inch (psi)
- Volume control: variable
- Pump direction control: reversible
Mixer Specifications:
- Mixer drum size: 7 cubic feet (practical maximum batch size is approximately 3.5 cubic feet)
- Reversible mixing blades
- Variable speed hydraulic drive
- Variable speed hydraulic pump (both directions)
- Powder coating allows easier cleaning of the equipment
Mainstay PortaMortar
The Mainstay PortaMortar allows the mortar mixer pump to be used in conjunction with equipment such as a medium to large skid steer loader. In this case, the mixer pump is powered by the loader's engine and hydraulics. This combination of equipment allows contractors to apply materials in difficult to access areas.
Optional Compressor Specifications:
- Air output: 24 CFM
- Power source: hydraulically powered
Optional Airless Spray Pump Specifications:
- Up to 5,000 psi of atomization pressure
- Removable material hopper
- Requires no external air source
NOTE: The mixer pump unit requires a separate 3,000 psi/12 gallons per minute hydraulic power supply, which is sold separately. The Mainstay PortaMortar requires a minimum 1,800 pound capacity skid steer loader.
Mainstay® equipment packages include all the necessary components required to mix, pump, and spray heavy bodied restoration mortars; proportion and spray epoxy coatings; perform surface preparation with on-board high pressure cleaning equipment; and provide compressed air and electrical power to operate power tools, ventilation, and lighting. NOTE: These trailer configurations are for example only. Many equipment component combinations and configurations are possible. Madewell® Products Corporation specializes in the design and fabrication of custom fixed ratio plural component equipment for the application of 100% solids coatings of all types. As an authorized Graco® distributor, Madewell can offer competitive pricing on standard and custom packages and components. To learn more about other Graco products, please visit www.graco.com.
Features & Benefits:
Jacketed stainless steel material hoppers
- Material lines are insulated and heat traced with a remote mixing manifold.
- In-line material heaters
- Unique material circulation system keeps materials ready to spray at a moment's notice
Graco® Xtreme® Airless Sprayers
Graco Xtreme Airless Sprayers provide an economical and efficient way to apply 100% solids epoxy coatings with relatively long pot life. Madewell® Products Corporation can provide custom stands and hoppers for these units. Units are available with conventional air motors, or Madewell can provide hydraulically powered units if a portable air source is not available or desired.
Features & Benefits:
- Graco airless pumps provide the high pressures required to apply heavy bodied, 100% solids epoxy coatings.
- These pumps are available in a variety of configurations and can be powered hydraulically or with compressed air.
- Cart-mounted pumps are the most common configuration and are highly maneuverable in tight spaces. Because they are not physically attached to a truck or trailer, they can be easily moved from one platform to another.
- Custom hinge-mounted pumps take up relatively little space on the platform and fold down for use. This feature keeps spilled paint and solvents off the truck or trailer. This configuration is theft resistant and ensures that the pump is always available when needed.
- Hydraulic power is the answer when compressed air is either not available or inconvenient. Hydraulically powered airless pumps make little noise and develop reasonably high pressures (up to 5,000 pounds per square inch, or psi). These pumps are most often used in conjunction with the Mainstay® PortaMortar, which is usually powered by a skid steer Bobcat® style loader.
Airless Sprayer Specifications:
- Air powered pumps require an X60 configuration or higher.
- Hydraulic pumps are fixed at 5,000 psi.

Mainstay Coating Spinner
The Mainstay Centrifugal Coating Spinner is a convenient tool to use when applying high build, 100% solids epoxy coatings to the interior of round vertical structures such as manholes and lift stations. This unit features two hoses: one hose carries paint to the spinning head; the other hose provides compressed air to power the air motor. The air motor, paint line, and air line are fitted inside a canvas jacket, which serves to duct the air motor exhaust out of the hole being lined. NOTE: The exhaust air contains traces of lubrication oil which may interfere with coating adhesion.
The Madewell Adhesion Tester is used to perform pull-off tests in accordance with ASTM D-7234. This device is designed to measure the adhesion of coatings applied to concrete substrates.
Features & Benefits:

-
Provides an objective and accurate measurement of the adhesion of coatings over concrete
-
Conforms to ASTM D-7234
-
Simple and easy to use
-
Set includes: 12 dollies, carrying case, 90 degree head for vertical surfaces, and step-by-step instructions (118 KB, opens in Adobe® Reader® in separate window)
